Rotary Minutes 
April 12, 2016
 
President Chris opened the meeting at 12:15p with the Pledge of Allegiance.  After reciting the Four Way Test, Ken Gass led the Club in singing God Bless America.  Bob Kenning gave the invocation reminding us that the Rotary mission is Service Above Self.
 
Regan Gilshire sold luncheon tickets.  David Underdown sold raffle tickets (Ryan Quinn won the $15 daily pot; no one won the $117 card draw). Doug Koschik greeted. Kayla Thompson acted as Sheriff. The Club welcomed past Regional Governor Jim Gilmore.  Regan led the club is singing Happy Birthday to her mother, President Chris.
 
Charles Wickins awarded Mark Anderson a gift certificate for selling the second most raffle tickets to the Master’s Golf Tournament.  John Mucha raffled off two tickets to the Tiger gave on April 12th; Charles Wickins was the winning bidder.  The reading program at Owen school resumes this week.  The Board of Directors will meet on Thursday, April 28th.  
 
Several members of the club will attend the District 6380 Conference in Chatham, Ontario May 13-15.  Doug Koschik advised the club of the Boomer Summit, Saturday, April 30th, 7:30a to noon at Groves High School.  There will be speakers, music and vendors.
 
Kayla Thompson delivered a classification talk.  She is a graduate of UofM in Political Science and is in her 3rd year of Wayne State Law School while working as a financial planner.  Growing up she was active in 4H raising goats and chickens.  She lives in Royal Oak with her husband who is a professional golfer. 
 
Ryan Quinn introduced Jeff Nemeth, a personal trainer.  Jeff was Sparty, the MSU mascot.  He lives in Beverly Hills.  His practice concentrates on busy professionals.  He said the only way to lose weight is to lose body fat.  You can’t outrun a doughnut.  Stay off sugary drinks and sweets.  He recommends alternating cardio and strength training days.  It is ok to indulge if planned for.  
 
Next week’s speaker will be Andy Meisner, Oakland County Treasurer.
 
The meeting adjourned at 1:15p with a rousing version of Smiles.
