Charlie Cavell is an Oakland County Commissioner and social worker. He has spent his career seeking to lift up the voices of the unheard, serve the vulnerable, and spread empathy. 
 
Prior to being elected to the Oakland County Commission in 2020, he worked in economic and tax policy for Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. He has worked at several nonprofit organizations in metro-Detroit whose foci ranged from homelessness to racial justice; early childhood education to immigrant rights; and poverty alleviation to workforce development. 
 
Charlie has worked on community development internationally in India, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, and Turkey and has traveled on 5 different continents.
 
Recently, Charlie became one of 15 local leaders nationwide to be invited to participate in the MacArthur Foundation's inaugural County Officials Racial Equity and Justice Network.
 
Charlie, who was raised on a farm, loves the outdoors and hiking with his wife Caitie.
